The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain
Today was my first morning in Spain after 6 months of english food/weather.
I have realized that is hard to get used to hectic crazy 9am to 5pm life but even more difficult is to slow down into easy going nothing-to-do life. Specially if you are used to fast-forward through life and you suddenly find yourself among people who move to the "Charriots of Fire" tune.
I woke up today ay 7.45 am (6.45 am in England) stressing with work stuff in my mind. I need to confirm with the PA of this developer in Dubai that my boss is going to be picked up in Abu Dhabi by one of their drivers and not by a group of long bearded blokes in a black and red van with "A team" written on the side ( A(lcaida) team).
8.00 am I woke up the whole family ( dad, cat, dog, turtle, sister + neighbours... the last 2 groups did not appreciate it )
8.10 am Tried to have breakfast in kitchen...I had to rely on family tradition to find all the stuff. "the coffee... in the 2nd drawer, and the sugar in the first shelf..." at least that was the place we use to put it before I left home (I was still in uni!?!?) I went to grab some milk in the fridge and I was surprised to see that they did not have any fresh milk but only pastourized.. psturised ohhhh (how do you write that?)...any way. The milk had a use by date : Feb 2005. English should really consider introducing the concept of fresh milk in the Spanish households (apart from introducing Starbucks).
That s another one! I had to make my own coffee after a long time...I wished I had a Starbucks round the corner (As it happens in London) so that I could grab a Tall Cafe Mocha Without Cream to Take Away! Can you believe they don t have Starbucks in Spain!!??
When I use to live in Spain I measured developed countries by the number of Mc Donalds they had...Cuba= 0 McDonalds...underdeveloped. USA= 1,543 Mc Donalds per sqm...very developed. Spain= 6 Mc. Donalds per person...nearly there. I was so ignorant!
Now I know what measures the level of development of a country. STARBUCKS. UK= 5,067 Starbucks per person...very developed. Spain= 0 Starbucks...underdeveloped.
I also noticed that the more "underdeveloped" the country is the more "human" your life is...In Spain you still have some time to sit in a Coffee Bar and have a coffee (and a chat) with your friends/family/collegues...In UK you just drink your coffee walking or standing while you read the METRO on the Tube
................Now I´ve lost my point ( If I ever started with one) with this Digression on Starbucks and Developed countries.......................................................................
After having coffee I sat in front of the computer to connect to my work e-mail. No much going on...UK has also slowed down over this period. Thank s God that He decided to have a Son on this earth so that apart from saving the whole humanity we can rest and have a break!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
